Hans graduated from Ghent University, Belgium in 1992 as Doctor in

the Light Infantry before joining the Parasitology Department of his home

university as a research-assistant in 1994 where he was responsible for research

into equine internal parasites. In 1995 he went into private practice.

In 1996 he enrolled into a post-graduate course which resulted in obtaining the degree of "Specialised Horse Practitioner" in 1999 (GespPD). In the mean time he also managed a Pure-bred Arabian stud-farm.

In 2003 Hans left Belgium to work in Ireland for the stud-season followed by a stud-season in Egypt. He came to the UK in 2004 where he has worked in several practices including an equine referral-hospital. He also enrolled into one of the RCVS certificates: in 2009, he passed the examination and was awarded the Certificate in Equine Medicine (Stud Medicine).

In September 2009, Hans started the on-line "Masters in Equine Science" course from Edinburgh University. This 3 years course culminated in Hans receiving the Master in Science degree with Honours.

In 2019, Hans worked in The Netherlands with about 90% of his time spend on working on the horses of VDL Stud before buying Horse Happy Veterinary Services in Ireland in 2020.

While he has a strong interest in stud-work, Hans has built up a vast experience in most aspects of equine medicine. His job at an equine referral hospital also gave him the oportunity to get acquainted with the newest diagnostic and treatment options available nowadays.

His hobbies are taking his daughters swimming, parachute-jumping (mainly military style commemorative jumps), rugby (after 22 years of playing, he is now involved with coaching and refereeing), the odd game of golf and photography.
